Skylar Maven Ong is the only child of finance magnates Richard Ong and Joyce Ong who are known to be owners of the most influential Ong Financial Holdings Inc.The Ongs are known to be the oldest Filipino-Chinese family in the finance industry with their company focusing on investment management and corporate financing. Through decades of strategic investments and careful expansion, Skylar’s great grandfather was able to break through the country’s financial industry and establish the family’s empire.However, due to the old age of his grandfather, Skylar’s dad Richard, being the oldest child, eventually took over the business as the Chairman with his wife Joyce Ong. With the family’s built reputation and influence in the finance industry, Skylar carried the weight of being the sole heir of the company. The expectation to follow his family’s path haunted him like a ghost. For years Skylar tried to be the perfect child, doing everything his grandfather wanted but his heart screamed for something more. He knew he didn’t want to be a corporate slave–he wanted to be more. Oh, don’t get him wrong Skylar tried to like the family business, god knows what he had to put through just to make himself fit enough to stand as the heir of the company.But trying and trying and trying and trying and trying….was never enough for his heart to settle where it was trying to fit in. It took a while for him to muster enough courage to confront his parents about it and maybe it was Sky’s luck and the universe way of making it up to him as the conversation was positively taken by his father“Bakit ngayon mo lang sinabi? 我绝不会给你压力，也不会要求你一定要做这些事情” was his father’s line. It remained vivid in his mind, probably a core memory for him as he was left dumbfounded by his response.His parents truly are a blessing and a gift, he realized that it was never them who placed this expectation on his head that he carried like weight throughout the years but rather his grandfather. His Dad assured him that what they own today, the wealth, the company, and everything else was because he wanted him to have the freedom to pursue whatever his heart desires. Richard never hoped for Skylar to be like him nor be like his mother Joyce, all that he ever hoped was for Skylar to have the opportunity to become who he wants to be and if ever one day he decided to follow their path they will always welcome it.With this new found opportunity, Skylar pursued BS Communication Technology Management in Ateneo de Manila University (already graduated) and during his years something unexpected happened. It started with one particular post on his Instagram and the next thing he knew likes and the followers kept coming. It was simply his usual day to day campus life. Yet, overnight, the internet could not help but talk about the stunning Atenean. One viral post led to a thousand followers, brand offers, media attention, and a growing online presence he didn't even know how to handle that led to establish him as one of the most sought after influencers in the country. In the year 2024 Skylar managed to bag a big brand deal with Faceshop and Celeteque Dermoscience and became a clothing brand ambassador.And maybe this is where Sky would discover himself, maybe this fame would satiate his want to be more.
